Making the Case for Trust-Based Philanthropy: An Equity Signature Series Workshop
As trust-based philanthropy gains recognition across the sector, more funders, individual donors and grantmaking professionals are getting curious about this as an approach to alleviate power imbalances and advance community impact. While many leaders and practitioners have a base-level understanding of why trust-based philanthropy is the way to go, many are still grappling with how to make the case to their peers. This can be especially challenging given the range of misperceptions, critiques and questions that come up for those who are less familiar with trust-based philanthropy.

Join us for our second statewide gathering of Latinx nonprofit and philanthropy leaders, hosted by CMF’s Latinx Affinity Network! Our goals for this in-person gathering include deepening connections and broadening our network, enhancing nonprofit capacity, and fostering shared understanding and support around civic engagement. Let's come together to strengthen our community and amplify our impact.
Supporting Rural Communities: A CMF Member Gathering
Join your rural philanthropy peers in person to discuss around. The purpose of this gathering will be to empower foundation staff and trustees working in rural communities to connect with peers in meaningful ways and discuss opportunities and challenges related to rural infrastructure. The group will be joined by Sarah Lucas, Director of the Office of Rural Prosperity, who will share more about the trajectory of the office, what they are learning through statewide listening sessions and how philanthropy can continue to partner to lift and address issues facing their communities.

This conversation is open to all CMF members whether your work touches programming or you have a dedicated programming role.
Foundations in Lansing: Mental Health Conversations with Policymakers
Join your Michigan philanthropy peers engaged in mental health-related efforts and meet with selected state legislators on mental health policy issues. Conversations and storytelling will be focused on, but not limited to, mental health work, including efforts in destigmatizing mental health, expanding access to mental health services and supporting community-based mental health programs. We will meet with selected state legislators engaged in health policy making, so a broader range of discussion is welcome. We will also learn about legislative priorities in mental health policy and deepen connections with policymakers working to shape Michigan's health systems and outcomes.

You’re invited to join this virtual gathering hosted by the CMF Talent & Human Resources Affinity Group, open to all CMF members whether you have a dedicated role in HR or this area is one of many responsibilities you hold. Together we'll engage in dialogue on pay philosophies and what it looks like to bring an equity-centered lens to your organization’s decision making related to paying a living wage and market rates, inclusive benefits, pay transparency and beyond. This session features expert insights from a nonprofit compensation consultant and an opportunity for peer sharing of related foundation practices. Then, stay on to engage in open space for discussion on other people-centered topics - please bring any questions you’re wrestling with and highlights from your work to share.
