Impactful Storytelling: Using Data to Tell Stories of Change
You’re invited to join this virtual gathering hosted by the CMF Learning & Evaluation peer community, open to all CMF members. Together we'll learn about and explore ideas for collecting data and using data in storytelling, and we’ll hear how other organizations have told stories of impact using data. We’ll also discuss trust-based evaluation approaches to gather meaningful qualitative and quantitative data while thoughtfully reducing the lift on nonprofit partners. Foundations In Lansing: Workforce Supports
Join your Michigan philanthropy peers engaged in supporting workforce needs. Conversations and storytelling will be focused on, but not limited to, talent attraction and retention, training, and workforce housing supported by Michigan philanthropy. We will meet with selected state legislators engaged in these policy-making areas, so a broader range of discussion is welcome. This is an opportunity to highlight Michigan philanthropy’s work towards equitable opportunities for the jobs of today and the jobs of tomorrow. We will also learn about legislative priorities in education and deepen connections with policymakers working to shape the future of the workforce in Michigan.

Join us for this in-person gathering for development professionals to discuss what you’re seeing in your work and crowdsource ideas from your peers across the state. This will be a space for participants to share stories and advice from their experiences in the field and you will have an opportunity to share your ideas for topics during the registration process. Making the Case for Trust-Based Philanthropy: An Equity Signature Series Workshop
As trust-based philanthropy gains recognition across the sector, more funders, individual donors and grantmaking professionals are getting curious about this as an approach to alleviate power imbalances and advance community impact. While many leaders and practitioners have a base-level understanding of why trust-based philanthropy is the way to go, many are still grappling with how to make the case to their peers. This can be especially challenging given the range of misperceptions, critiques and questions that come up for those who are less familiar with trust-based philanthropy.
Talent Attraction Program Focuses on Filling Gaps in Local Construction Industry
In Mid-Michigan, there has been an increase in demand for construction workers but there aren’t enough ready applicants to fill those roles. The Midland Area Community Foundation has been working to address this issue by recruiting and incentivizing future construction professionals in the community through its Construction Talent Attraction Program.

Supporting Rural Communities: A CMF Member Gathering
Join your rural philanthropy peers in person to discuss around. The purpose of this gathering will be to empower foundation staff and trustees working in rural communities to connect with peers in meaningful ways and discuss opportunities and challenges related to rural infrastructure. The group will be joined by Sarah Lucas, Director of the Office of Rural Prosperity, who will share more about the trajectory of the office, what they are learning through statewide listening sessions and how philanthropy can continue to partner to lift and address issues facing their communities.

Preserving Historic Black Resort Communities in Michigan
Idlewild Historic District and Woodland Park are historic Black resort communities established during the era of segregation that have offered a place of rest and recreation for Black entrepreneurs, religious and political leaders, and entertainers for decades. Fremont Area Community Foundation has partnered with organizations and community leaders to support the development of a strategic plan to preserve and showcase the communities and promote economic development.
Remembering John M. Frey
John M. Frey, a 2nd generation trustee emeritus of the Frey Foundation, passed away on March 28. He was 84 years old.

CMF members met with federal policymakers to educate them on issues that foster economic prosperity and strengthen our Michigan communities and lift up opportunities for philanthropy and government to work in partnership.

YAC Advisor Spring Training
Join your fellow YAC advisors for an opportunity to network and learn together! During this engaging in-person training, YAC advisors will learn more about the Developmental Assets Framework, which identifies 40 supports and strengths that young people need to succeed. In addition to a high-level overview of the framework and research, participants hear how a YAC has incorporated the work into their needs assessment and consider ways they can use the information in their YAC’s work. Participants will also have time to connect with peers around best practices, lessons learned and other topics of interest. This training is open to community foundation staff or volunteers who serve in a leadership or support role with their YAC.
