NCFP Series | 21st-Century Governance Part Three: Family Philanthropies as Stewards of a Public Trust
What responsibilities do family philanthropies have to steward their funds intended for public benefit? Who are they accountable to in pursuit of effective family philanthropy?
Foundations in Lansing: Mental Health Conversations with Policymakers
Join your Michigan philanthropy peers engaged in mental health-related efforts and meet with selected state legislators on mental health policy issues. Conversations and storytelling will be focused on, but not limited to, mental health work, including efforts in destigmatizing mental health, expanding access to mental health services and supporting community-based mental health programs. We will meet with selected state legislators engaged in health policy making, so a broader range of discussion is welcome. We will also learn about legislative priorities in mental health policy and deepen connections with policymakers working to shape Michigan's health systems and outcomes.
Exploring Access to Quality Health Care
CMF's Health Affinity Group, the Safety Net Work Group and the Governor’s Office of Foundation Liaison invite you to join your peers as we unpack issues related to the social safety net, health and health care access—priority among the group is the “unwinding” of Medicaid, i.e., the ending of expanded access to benefits during the pandemic. Michiganders will either lose access or will need to re-enroll. During this virtual briefing, you’ll hear from national, state and community leaders as they offer updates to the process, overview barriers to access, share how Michigan compares to other states and brainstorm the role that philanthropy can play to ensure access to quality health care. We’ll also take time to discuss health priority areas among funders. Join us!
Expert Analysis: Mitigating Extremism Through Philanthropy & Shaping the Census 2030
As midterm elections near, join us for a funder-focused conversation on two timely and critical issues. Together we will explore findings from a national and Michigan-specific public opinion research project supported by The Joyce Foundation in partnership with the Trusted Elections Fund and the Klarman Family Foundation on the public’s view of political violence and ways that Michigan philanthropy can engage to mitigate the threats posed by political extremism. Additionally, the U.S. Census Bureau has formally invited the public to share input and ideas for an improved 2030 Census.
