About the Organization
The Marshall Community Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving quality of life in Marshall and throughout Calhoun County. Our mission is to help make the greater-Marshall area an even better place to live, work and raise a family. We do this by attracting permanently endowed funds from a wide range of donors, serving as a conduit for special projects, distributing grants in support of innovative programs, while always being mindful to carry out the intentions of donors.

Position Description

MCF is seeking an energetic and creative colleague to join the team. The ideal person for this role is driven to learn, improve and come up with concepts that highlight the Foundation’s accomplishments and mission. This is an entry-level position.  

The Program Associate will operate under direction of the Executive Director within the policies and procedures established by the Foundation’s Bylaws, Resolutions, Fund Agreements and Policies duly adopted by the Foundation Board of Trustees and consistent with appropriate federal, state and local laws.


Responsibilities

Communication Associate

  • Develop, schedule and publish content across multiple platforms, including but not limited to social media, the website and traditional media.
  • Create, write, edit, design and send messaging that aligns with the Foundation’s brand and drives audiences toward specific action.
  • Assist staff in developing direct mail, educational brochures, advertisements, e-newsletters, and other promotional materials.
  • Be audience-centric, focusing on direct community engagement.
  • Grow the Foundation’s social media presence while increasing engagement rates.

Scholarship Coordinator 

  • Promotes scholarship initiatives with relevant parties and through appropriate channels.
  • Facilitate the overall application process for all scholarships including the online application portal and committee platforms. 
  • Responsible for outreach to and oversight of external scholarship committees. 
  • Maintain records and reports on all scholarship applicants and recipients.
  • Responsible for keeping the website updated with accurate and current terms, conditions and criteria for all scholarships. 
  • Tracks annual scholarship budget spending. 

Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the Executive Director’s discretion. While performing the duties of this job, it is expected that the employee will attend meetings and events  that may occasionally extend beyond standard working hours.


Qualifications

Additional qualifications and abilities

  • An aptitude for forging and maintaining trusting relationships is of highest priority.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication, grammar, proof reading and problem-solving skills. 
  • The ability to work independently with general supervision; exercise judgement and determine appropriate action within defined guidelines. 
  • Understanding of social media and communication best practices is a must.
  • An analytical eye and a good sense for the type of content that performs best relative to platform and objective. 
  • The ability to plan for and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines without sacrificing quality.
  • Understanding of website administration.
  • Sensitivity to confidential matters is required.

Education

  • A minimum associate’s degree in advertising, journalism, marketing or communication, or at least 3-5 years relevant experience.

Salary & Benefits

Salary: Comparable to education and experience, $40,000-45,000 range 
Start date: August 2025 
Hours: This is a full-time, exempt position
