Resources to Support You in the Wake of Executive Actions Impacting Our Sector & Our Communities
Active Legislation
The Senate Finance Committee released updated text of the tax package and has passed the amended package as of July 1, 2025. Thanks to your advocacy efforts, several provisions have been updated or eliminated. These important updates are highlighted below:
- Dropped from the bill language:
- New tax on nonprofit transportation benefits
- New tax on foundations
- Harmful language granting unprecedented authority to the executive branch to revoke tax-exempt status (remains dropped)
- Expanded in the bill language:
- Universal charitable deduction
While this is great news, there are still other provisions that may take away resources from the nonprofit sector, reducing its ability to serve people in communities nationwide:
- Cuts to safety net programs, such as Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (also known as SNAP benefits), which provide essential healthcare and food security to millions of people.
Nonprofits should continue to contact their members of Congress to urge them to:
- Oppose limits on individual and corporate giving
- Support and further expand tax incentives for charitable giving
- Support essential safety net programs, such as Medicaid and SNAP.
Read the letter to the Senate, signed on to by 2,100+ nonprofits from the National Council of Nonprofits, Independent Sector, Council on Foundations and United Philanthropy Forum.
