Michigan’s 2019 infant mortality rate of 6.4 infant deaths per 1,000 live births was the lowest in recorded history, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). Between 2009 and 2019, the infant mortality rate in Michigan declined by nearly 15% and the gap between Black and White infant mortality reduced from a disparity ratio of 3.2 in 2018 to 2.6 in 2019. The state health department’s Mother Infant Health & Equity Improvement Plan and the administration’s Healthy Moms, Health Babies initiative have worked to improve prenatal and postpartum care for expectant mothers. Join your peers to learn how MDHHS programs are working to make a difference and to understand what role philanthropy might play to build on recent successes in improving the lives of mothers, infants and families in Michigan.
