Biography

Amanda joined CMF's communications team in 2016. In her role as director of communications, she leads the organization's strategic communications in alignment with CMF's Equity at the Center Strategic Framework. As a former Emmy nominated and award-winning television news reporter and anchor Amanda worked in newsrooms across the country for over a decade covering state and national politics, the justice system, health care, education and breaking news events. She was thrilled to bring her passion for storytelling and comms for good to her role at CMF, amplifying stories of how Michigan philanthropy is advancing efforts toward a more equitable Michigan for all.

Amanda lives in the Grand Rapids area with her husband Scott and their two young daughters.

Describe what you do in your role.

I lead CMF’s strategic communications, managing all internal and external communications, leveraging CMF's thought leadership and expertise with our state and national partners, policymakers and the media and providing executive communications support.

What do you enjoy the most about your work?

Digging into new and enlightening data and learning about the innovative approaches our CMF community is leveraging to remove systemic barriers facing marginalized communities. I also enjoy working in close partnership with our Government Relations Public Policy team on communications to help to champion the policy leadership of our members. I'm energized by the opportunities for continuous learning and deep collaboration at CMF. 

What are the causes you’re most passionate about?

Advancing racial equity, supporting the LGBTQ+ community and education that provides equitable pathways to opportunities for all students.

What inspires, challenges or motivates you?

I am inspired by the efforts of Michigan philanthropy to advance racial equity and affect systemic change in hopes of a brighter more equitable future for all in Michigan. 

What do you love about Michigan?

I am a Michigan transplant who’s truly smitten with the Mitten! I love the beauty of our state and exploring all of the hidden gems as well as the incredible local restaurants, all while experiencing the kindness of Michiganders/Michiganians.
