  • Serve as a trusted source of data, information and dialogue about programs, policy impacts and policy and implementation options.
  • Facilitate strategic joint investments that are aimed at improving outcomes for Michigan residents, especially those that are most vulnerable and marginalized.
     

Biography

Kayl brings experience in nonprofit administration to the Governor’s Office of Foundation Liaison (OFL), particularly with membership organizations. Before his role with OFL began in April 2025, he was a Membership Specialist at the Michigan Manufacturers Association. There, he conducted industry research and outreach activities to support member recruitment and retention. Prior to the Association, Kayl was Membership & Communications Manager at the Country Club of Lansing, where he managed the Club’s membership operations, member services, and communications.

Kayl grew up in rural West Michigan and moved to the Lansing/East Lansing area to attend Michigan State University. He graduated from MSU with a bachelor’s in Comparative Cultures & Politics in the James Madison College program and has stayed in and around the capital city since then.

Describe what you do in your role.
As Senior Coordinator for OFL, I manage the operations of the office and steward OFL’s partnerships. I work in collaboration with our team to advance our work brokering innovative funding partnerships and strategic collaborations between the executive branch of state government and philanthropy to improve outcomes for Michigan residents.

What do you enjoy the most about your work?
The Governor’s Office of Foundation Liaison is the first of its kind in the nation and it’s truly an honor to contribute to its critical work and mission to improve the lives of Michiganders. 

What are the causes you’re most passionate about?
I value promoting equity in all its forms, but especially with regard to race and the LGBTQ+ community. In addition, affordable housing and the care of our environment are top-of-mind.

What inspires, challenges or motivates you?
When you are continuously working toward the betterment of people’s well-being, it’s easy to find value in each and every task, no matter how small.

What do you love about Michigan?
I grew up with a forest and river in my backyard; the beauty of Michigan’s part of the ecosphere is hard to beat. But really, Michigan has it all. From the cities of Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Lansing, up to the majesty of the UP, almost anyone can find their ideal habitat - so long as you appreciate ALL four seasons.
