Biography
Tisha served as a volunteer community review for the City of Toledo Community Development Block Grant and United Way of Greater Toledo. She actively searched for ways to hear from the community by seeking out new nonprofits and new applicants and joined neighborhood coalitions. She researched and created a workshop designed for funders willing to drive equity-centered grantmaking. The workshop called Infusing Community Organizing & Philanthropy was presented at Philanthropy Ohio’s Philanthropy Forward 2023 conference and CMF 2024 annual conference. She served as a community organizer in Detroit at M.O.S.E.S. where she led a successful 2010 awareness campaign, increased neighborhood resident buy-in while working at Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity, and freelance report for The Sojourner’s Truth newspaper.
Professionally, Tisha graduated from Central State University and Lourdes University in Ohio. She is an active member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., EPIP Michigan Chapter, PEAK and Toastmasters International. Personally, Tisha loves to spend time with her family and attend activities that create memories, traveling and reading a good paperback book.

What do you enjoy the most about your work?
I enjoy the ability to support the deliberate growth of equity-centered philanthropy across the state of Michigan.

I am passionate about ensuring that people feel seen by philanthropy and serving as a sounding board for members and partners about right-size philanthropy practices.
What inspires, challenges or motivates you?
My family serve as the nucleus of my inspiration. My family elevate me and humble me, they encourage me to influence and shake-up the system. We must continue to move philanthropy forward, behind every decision is a face that is impacted by that decision.
What do you love about Michigan?
Michigan means home and reconnection. I spent every summer in Detroit as a child, worked my first full-time nonprofit job in Detroit, and watched equity-facing philanthropy in action across the state of Michigan. Michigan is a state where you can visit The Motown Museum, explore the sand dunes and realize that you are never too far away from a body of water.
