Describe what you do in your role.

As CSO I lead the development, monitoring, implementation, evaluation and advancement of CMF’s short- and long-term goals within our strategic framework in collaboration with our president and CEO, Kyle Caldwell, working closely with the CMF team. I help to develop, execute and provide analysis for pilots, projects and initiatives and support internal development and external partnerships, ensuring alignment and accountability to our mission, vision, values and core priorities. I love that my role is very much about relationships and is always grounded in our commitment to putting equity at the center.

What do you enjoy the most about your work?

I am invigorated by our vision – A thriving philanthropic sector leading in the relentless pursuit of equitable systems and inclusive diversity – and appreciate the opportunity to work toward that vision with such incredible colleagues, trustees, foundation leaders and partners across Michigan’s ecosystem. I enjoy having a role that challenges me, and CMF is truly a fantastic organization with a rich history and bright future.

What are the causes you’re most passionate about?

My own journey to understand issues of inequity is particularly focused around racial justice; I am grateful for all those I’ve learned from and learned with in this space, including CMF colleagues and the CMF community of philanthropy. Causes I’m personally most passionate about are LGBTQ rights, the arts and the environment. The first 14 years of my career were spent in school and school district communications and strategy, an experience that further deepened my passion for education and appreciation for all those who serve the needs of youth.

What inspires, challenges or motivates you?

I’m most energized by a group of people coming together around a table to work through challenges and codesign solutions that really move the needle for deep and lasting change – mindful of who sets that table, thoughtful of who may not be at the table and ensuring all around the table are welcomed, heard and respected. I am inspired by that kind of inclusive connection, and the creativity that comes from diverse views and voices finding synergy.

What do you love about Michigan?

Being a native to the Midwest I very much appreciate the change of seasons, and so particularly enjoy how much outdoor fun can be had in Michigan all year. Nature is such a celebrated, appreciated and cared for part of Michigan culture. Whether winter skiing or summer hiking, fishing on ice or amid the color changing leaves, boating or camping, there are endless destinations across our beautiful state.
