David Mengebier

Dave is the president and CEO of the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation. Before joining the community foundation in 2018, Dave served for 17 years as Senior Vice President of Governmental, Regulatory, and Public Affairs for Consumers Energy and president of the Consumers Energy Foundation. Mengebier led a range of corporate functions in his role, including governmental and regulatory affairs, communications, charitable giving, community relations, and sustainability. Mengebier also served eight years as the company's chief ethics and compliance officer. Before joining Consumers Energy, Mengebier served as legislative counsel for Handgun Control, Inc. and worked for six years as a legislative aide in the U.S. House of Representatives. Over his career, Mengebier has served on a number of nonprofit boards, including chair of Catholic Social Services of Washtenaw County, chair of Jackson County United Way, the Great Lakes Water Quality Board, Michigan Chamber of Commerce and the Little Traverse Conservancy. He currently serves on the boards of Munson Healthcare, CMF, and Northwest Michigan’s regional economic development organization, Traverse Connect. Dave serves as co-chair of the CMF Government Relations Public Policy Committee.

Dave holds a Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University, a law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, and an MBA from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.
