In honor of Chris Stallworth, who passed away in 2021, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation awarded a $100,000 grant to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint to create the Christopher Stallworth Fund.

Chris was a dedicated member of Mott’s Flint and Education program teams. He crafted the foundation’s entrepreneurship programs for young people in Flint and across the country. Prior to joining the team at the Mott Foundation, Chris served as the director of Learning Services at CMF.

Mott Foundation staff voted on how to allocate the first $50,000 in grants to organizations and programs that were close to Chris’ heart.

Based on the voting, the community foundation was able to award six grants totaling $50,000. The first five received the average amounts staff voted to give them, while the sixth received the remaining funds.

The organizations chosen to receive funding include:

  • Young Innovators Fair at Kettering University
  • Adopt-A-Pet Fenton
  • Mott Community College – Ellen’s Closet
  • Young Entrepreneur Institute at University School
  • Factory Two/Active Boys in Christ (ABC)
  • Flint Soup

The fund has an advisory committee that will determine how to allocate additional grant dollars in the coming years.

“We are thankful that we were able to know and learn from Chris,” Neal Hegarty, vice president of programs at the Mott Foundation said. “We hope to honor him, not only with this fund but also by continuing to do the work that was important to him.”
