How are kids and families doing in Michigan?

The 2018 Kids Count in Michigan Data Book examines 16 indicators of child well-being at the state and local levels. While there have been improvements in several areas since 2010, including child poverty rates, Michigan has consistently ranked in the bottom half of states in the national KIDS COUNT rankings and there are significant disparities in outcomes by race, ethnicity, place and income.

If Michigan is to progress and become a place where people want to work and raise families, then resources and strategies must be targeted to ensure that all children are able to thrive and reach their full potential regardless of race, ethnicity, family income or where they live.
