Question(s)
I have a pretty new DA fund (established last spring) that has a Christian Missions purpose. The donor would like to use this fund to support a church for a mission trip to China, with the purpose of distributing bibles. The grant recipient would be a church, in support of their mission programs. Can we support that activity from our DA fund, as a charitable activity, and are there any other issues we should be aware of?
Response(s)
Since the grant is going to a tax exempt entity you can assume the purpose is chartable. The IRS would come back to the church if they did not use the funds for a tax exempt purpose; supporting a mission trip clearly seems charitable. You would not be disbursing funds directly to individuals so there shouldn't be any issues in providing the funding.
