This document synthesizes themes and highlights lessons from the Knowledge Symposium on Diversity and Inclusion in Philanthropy: The Michigan Experience convened by the Council of Michigan Foundations (CMF) and the Diversity in Philanthropy Project in March, 2009. It includes pre-symposium interviews with approximately 20 Michigan foundations and 17 national content experts. The Symposium was the launch of CMF's five-year Transforming Michigan Philanthropy Through Diversity and Inclusion initiative.
