Program Manager, New Economy Initiative

As a Program Manager for the New Economy Initiative (NEI), you will play a pivotal role in providing support and coordination of NEI’s efforts to drive economic growth and support the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Working closely with the NEI Team, our initiative partners at the Network Office at Invest Detroit and our growing group of diverse stakeholders, you will assist with key programs aimed at fostering innovation, supporting entrepreneurs, and creating sustainable economic opportunities.
This position requires exceptional organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, strong written and oral communication and a passion for economic development.
Management of Special Projects and Initiatives
- Collaborate with internal team, external partners, and community organizations to identify program needs, goals, and target outcomes.
- Develop program budgets, timelines, and evaluation metrics to measure the success and impact of initiatives.
- Ensure effective program execution, monitoring progress, and making adjustments as needed.
Grantmaking
- Provide logistical support to program team in managing relationships with grantees and potential grantees, including scheduling meetings, responding to questions and inquiries.
- Conduct initial screen of grant applications and work collaboratively with program team on development of grant summaries and materials for Grant Review Meetings
- Develop collaborative relationship with CFSEM grantmaking team to facilitate integration of NEI grantmaking with CFSEM systems and operations.
- Provide technical assistance to grantees to facilitate submissions of proposals and reports.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including entrepreneurs, business leaders, government agencies, community organizations, and funding partners.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for partnership, resource sharing, and alignment of goals.
- Serve as a representative of NEI Detroit at events, conferences, and meetings to promote programs and initiatives.
Administrative Support to the Executive Director
- Provide logistical support to ED in scheduling and hosting regular meetings with Advisory Committee and Funder Alignment meetings.
- Assist with management of staff calendars, including scheduling, coordinating and hosting meetings.
- Track reoccurring deadlines across staff and work collaboratively with team to ensure on-time deliverables.
- Prepare materials and reports for special project activities.
- Conduct background research and gather information for potential grantmaking and special partnerships and collaborations.
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of strategic programs and initiatives to support entrepreneurship and economic growth in the Detroit area.

- Ensure effective program execution, monitoring progress, and making adjustments as needed.
Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, public administration, or a related field. Or Proven experience (5+ years) in program management, economic development, entrepreneurship support, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, economic trends, and community development in the Detroit area.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven mindset.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Experience in grant management, budgeting, and reporting is highly desirable.
- Passion for economic development, entrepreneurship, and creating positive impact in communities.
Benefits & Salary The targeted salary for those entering this role is $68,800 – $86,000.
The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan offers a robust benefits package including 20 days of vacation accrued monthly, 5 personal days, 11 holidays, 9 sick days accrued monthly, paid parental leave, and employer paid short/long term disability.
The Community Foundation also offers a pension retirement program after 1 year of service which contributes 10% of salary.
