TROY, Mich., March 11, 2015 – The William Davidson Foundation today announced the appointment of Darin McKeever as its first Chief Program and Strategy Officer. An experienced social entrepreneur and expert in global philanthropy, McKeever joins the foundation from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where he served six years as a Deputy Director in their Global Policy and Advocacy division.
McKeever will oversee the William Davidson Foundation’s programmatic work. He will work closely with the president, executive committee and board of directors to ensure that the foundation’s philanthropic investments are aligned with the overall mission and vision, and provide leadership for all program-related activity and staffing.
“He brings broad and deep experience building teams and leading successful organizations in the philanthropic and non-profit spaces, and I am convinced he will position the foundation to maximize impact. We are lucky to have him,” said Jonathan Aaron, president of the William Davidson Foundation.
Most recently at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, McKeever led an international team engaging governments, foundations and philanthropists to improve the overall effectiveness of philanthropy and charities worldwide. For more than a decade, prior to joining the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Darin was the executive director and co-founder of Heads Up, a Washington, DC-based provider of academic and enrichment programs.
“I am thrilled and honored to join the foundation at this important moment. For the better part of two decades, my focus has been helping to unleash more talent and funding to revitalize communities and expand opportunities for people that society often leaves behind,” McKeever said. “There is so much momentum in and around the city of Detroit right now. To contribute to that momentum and to be a part of building on William Davidson’s legacy in this region and beyond presented a unique opportunity for impact.”
McKeever, a graduate of Harvard University, earned an M.P.A. as a Reynolds Foundation Fellow for Social Entrepreneurship at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. He is former Echoing Green fellow and serves on boards and committees for Alliance Magazine, Global Philanthropy Forum, the Council on Foundations and the Harvard College National Advisory Board for Public Service.
