Project Manager, Michigan State Bar Foundation

The Michigan State Bar Foundation was established in 1947 to provide leadership and grants to improve access for all to the justice system, including support for civil legal aid for low-income households, law-related education and conflict education. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit membership organization.  The Foundation administers annual and project grants to increase access to justice throughout Michigan.

The Michigan State Bar Foundation receives revenue through the Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts (IOLTA) program that was adopted by the Supreme Court in 1990.  Michigan lawyers are required to deposit short-term or nominal funds of clients and third persons into IOLTA accounts.  Interest generated on IOLTA accounts is paid to the Michigan State Bar Foundation and provides an important source of funding for civil legal aid in Michigan.  Financial institutions play a significant role in the success of the IOLTA program.
