This individual will report to the Chief Philanthropy Officer, while acting as a strategic partner with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) team and the Inclusion Advisory Board (IAB) to lead the work of the GM Justice and Inclusion Campaign. The candidate will work in a very fast-paced environment and deal extensively with DE&I contacts within the organization as well as external partners and various community organizations. This individual will develop and execute the long-term strategy for the $10M investment GM has committed to help advance racial and social justice.

Responsibilities: 

DE&I Focus Area

  • Lead the development and execution of a data-driven, integrated DE&I social impact plan in partnership with the DE&I team:
    • Research and analyze the DE&I landscape to develop focus area strategy
    • Define focus area mission, vision, social outcomes, indicators and target population
    • Identify and solicit prospective nonprofit partners
    • Review and process requests for support, including providing initial recommendations
    • Lead activation of grant partnerships, monitor social investments and manage grant reporting
  • Recommend strategically aligned organizations for grant consideration
  • Analyze and compile focus area data and impact for various reports and uses
  • Maintain global knowledge of philanthropy and DE&I benchmarking trends
  • Serve as a DE&I philanthropy subject matter expert for the company
  • Integrate DE&I philanthropy into larger corporate citizenship strategies

Operational

  • Manage the review of requests to the Inclusion Advisory Board (IAB) and the Chief DE&I Officer from nonprofit organizations
  • Leverage existing CyberGrants system to receive and evaluate submissions
  • Build and manage relationships among grant partners and lead DE&I sponsorships
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, guidelines and budget for program
  • Manage responses to general inquiries and grant application status with external organizations in a timely manner
  • Develop and manage strategy for matching employee donations

Communications

  • Develop portfolio communication strategy/roadmap to highlight social investments and related activations
  • Develop communication plan for IAB social investments and related activations
  • Write programmatic overviews, develop reports for various levels of leadership
  • Work with the DE&I communications team to draft speeches and internal / external stories
  • Serve as an internal and external DE&I philanthropy spokesperson

Relationship Management

  • Collaborate with other program officers on DE&I grantmaking to leverage work across the Corporate Giving portfolio
  • Collaborate with volunteer coordinator to develop and post employee engagement opportunities related to grant activations
  • Collaborate with GM’s diversity-focused councils including Supplier Diversity Council, Minority Dealer Advisory Council, Women Dealer Advisory Council, Employee Resource Groups and their respective Leader Councils, and DEI Ambassador teams
  • Collaborate with product and brand teams on diversity philanthropy to support their programs
  • Partner with the Talent Acquisition and the Workforce Strategy teams on leveraging grants to attract and retain a diverse workforce
  • Partner with GM’s ESG team to look for impact opportunities
  • Partner with Data & Analytics team to integrate the company’s DE&I philanthropy efforts into the team’s corporate reputation research
Qualifications: 

Critical Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in the corporate giving/foundation and/or nonprofit sector working on DE&I programs
  • Experience executing multi-million-dollar funding strategies
  • Experience or knowledge within CSR, ESG nonprofit organizations or corporate grantmaking
  • Experience or knowledge of DE&I grantmaking
  • Knowledge of the role of corporate responsibility in a corporate culture
  • Must be highly proficient in working with web-based contributions/grants management systems for administering philanthropic contributions
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with various DE&I corporate, nonprofit and public audiences, and senior-level leaders
  • Strong planning, project management, financial, administrative, and organizational skills; attention to detail a must
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, as well as experience with digital and social media
  • Experience with presenting, coordinating, and organizing meetings or workshops
  • Proactive with ability to work independently and as part of a team -- making informed decisions in a complex and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and meet deadlines, proven ability to multi-task
  • Flexibility: ability to deal with changing priorities
  • Able to work across business functions to achieve enterprise wide results
