Brittany Kienker, Ph.D., consultant, Kienker Consulting LLC & knowledge insights specialist, Council of Michigan Foundations

Dr. Brittany Kienker brings over 10 years of experience in foundations, nonprofits, and higher education to her firm, Kienker Consulting LLC. She serves as the lead researcher for Ask CMF, a technical assistance service of the Council of Michigan Foundations. She is also an adjunct professor in Central Michigan University's Master of Science in Administration - Philanthropy and Fundraising program; and is a full member of the National Network of Consultants to Grantmakers. Throughout her career, Dr. Kienker has played an integral role in strategic and master plan initiatives, leadership transitions, organizational restructuring, and implementation of best practices in philanthropy at such institutions as the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, Indiana University Foundation, Michigan Aerospace Foundation, St. Mary Mercy Hospital, The Henry Ford, and Anthem Foundation.  Full bio here >>

Jennifer Oertel, partner, Jaffe Raitt Heuer and Weiss & impact investing expert in residence, Council of Michigan Foundations

Jennifer Oertel, is a shareholder in the law firm of Jaffee Raitt Heuer & Weiss, PC in Southfield (recently the only MI firm to be named to National Law Journal’s Mid-Size Hot List). She also serves as co-chair of the Nonprofit Corporations Committee of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and founding Vice Chair of the Detroit chapter of Social Enterprise Alliance.  She represents entrepreneurs, family and corporate foundations, public charities, social enterprises and impact investing funds.  She is fluent in Spanish, was a social worker prior to attending law school, and holds a certificate in nonprofit management from Georgetown University.  She is one of the few attorneys in the country with such a depth of experience with, and knowledge about, both the philanthropic sector and corporate finance and governance.
