Here's what I can help you with:
I can help connect you to state departments, find info and connect with the right people, organize and facilitate meetings between state government and Michigan foundations particularly related to Early Childhood, K-12, Health & Workforce Development; share knowledge and build relationships to leverage opportunities and partnerships.
Get to know Karen:
What do you do all day long?
Work with the OFL team and Learning Services team to respond to requests from state agencies and foundations for meetings, learning opportunities, and updated research and reports to improve understanding and create greater alignment and stronger public policy in support of Michigan children and families.
What’s the best part of your job?
Working across sectors and finding the places where we have common interests. Meeting so many people across the state who care deeply about making a positive difference in peoples lives.
Favorite flavor of ice cream?
Hmmm, to be truthful, I'd rather have potato chips or popcorn. But if it must be ice cream I choose lemon custard or vanilla with crushed potato chips. Don't knock, unless you have tried it!
What music are you streaming?
No particular artist. I am a bit eclectic and go back and forth between genres of jazz, gospel and R&B, depending on my mood and activity.
Why do you love where you live?
Flint is my hometown, and it has great history and some strong, resilient, kind people.
If you could choose a super power, what would it be?
The ability to spinkle good vibrations around, sort of like pixie dust.
Favorite book from childhood?
Nancy Drew mystery series.
I have lots, but if I must choose one I'd say "The Warmth of Other Sons" by Isabelle Wilkerson.
A cruise to Alaska or a cruise around the world.
Spending time with family and friends; concerts, theater performances and museums (when I can find time); speed walking; and reading (mostly with audiobooks in the car these days).
